Overview
The Payroll & Compliance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, complaint, and seamless payroll operations across North America for a fully remote, multi-jurisdiction, workforce of 250+ employees, with continued growth both organically and through M&A.
As a trusted subject-matter expert and partner to Finance and HR, this role owns end-to-end payroll processing, statutory compliance, payroll accounting support, and employee payroll inquiries—helping ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
This position owns end-to-end payroll operations, including payroll processing, statutory compliance, payroll accounting support, and resolution of employee payroll inquiries, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
The role is responsible for maintaining 100% payroll accuracy, ensuring strict compliance with multi-status/multi-province and labor regulations and driving timely payroll disbursements. This is a high-ownership, team contributor role for a detail-driven professional who thrives in a complex and evolving environment.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role collaborates closely with the People, Finance, and Operations teams to support a scalable, compliant, and reliable payroll function. This role will also manage a Payroll Specialist, with the opportunity to expand the team as organizational needs and scale evolve.
Location: This is a virtual, home-based position open to candidates in the Eastern United States or Canada. Availability during 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET is required.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Responsibilities:
Own end-to-end U.S. (multi-state) and Canadian (multi-province) payroll operations, delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing
Act as the primary owner of payroll processing, from input through final validation
Own state, provincial, and statutory payroll filings, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance
Prepare and review all payroll-related journal entries, including departmental and cost-center allocations
Perform reconciliation of payroll and benefit deductions, including taxes, retirement contributions, and benefit withholdings
Manage payroll funding activities, including benefit remittances and retirement program contributions
Serve as the escalation point of contact for employee payroll-related questions, providing timely and accurate support
Perform post-payroll validation, troubleshooting discrepancies, and recommend process improvements
Partner with Finance on general ledger alignment, reconciliations, audits, and payroll tax reporting
Support retirement plan administration, including remittances, system updates, and annual audit assistance
Maintain payroll documentation and support internal and external audits as needed
Compliance Responsibilities:
Own end-to-end payroll, tax, and statutory compliance across U.S. (multi-state) and Canadian (multi-province) jurisdictions, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant filings.
Own state, provincial, and statutory company filings, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance
Support retirement plan administration and assist with related annual audits
Support annual financial statement audit
Register the company for new tax and regulatory accounts as required
People Leader Responsibilities:
Manage and support a Payroll Specialist, including workload oversight, quality review, coaching, and performance management.
Serve as a people leader by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, supporting professional development, and ensuring alignment with company policies and values
Qualifications & Experience
Previous payroll supervisory experience required
Demonstrated experience managing multi-state/province U.S. and Canada payroll
Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, statutory filings, wage/hour laws, and payroll tax requirements
Solid understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger integration
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
Strong problem-solving and communication skills with a service-oriented mindset
Comfortable meeting strict payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Highly detail-oriented and process-driven
Proactive communicator who anticipates issues before they escalate
Comfortable operating independently while collaborating cross-functionally

Travel Requirements
All roles at Cloud for Good include a travel component. Business travel—both domestic and international—may be required based on project and client needs. The amount of travel will vary by role but is generally expected to be up to 30% annually. Travel is considered an essential part of this position and supports effective client engagement, collaboration, and company representation.
Work Environment
Cloud for Good is a fully remote company. Team members are expected to maintain a professional, distraction-free workspace that is camera-ready for video meetings. Collaboration takes place across Zoom, Office 365, Salesforce, and Slack during standard business hours (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in your local time zone).
Client Time Zone Alignment
As a team member, you may be required to adjust your work hours to align with your key client’s time zone to support effective communication, collaboration, and project delivery. Flexibility and coordination with your Project Lead (Services) will help ensure success in this client-facing role.
