About The Role

The Senior Tax Account Manager position focuses on tax reporting and administration for our retirement services. The primary responsibilities include managing 1099 tax software, overseeing tax reporting processes for half a million forms across various tax categories (1099 series, 5498, W-2G, 1040-2s), and administering tax filings for multiple states. The role will involve working closely with programmers to drive automation initiatives and supporting federal and state tax reporting. The manager will lead a team in India, ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance for our retirement and insurance products.

Responsibilities

Information Reporting - Primary point person surrounding the Convey Compliance, Inc. software used for information reporting.

  • Responsible for importing a large volume of tax files into compliance software annually - various 1099 forms, 5498, W2G, and 1042-S.

  • Issue approx. 500,000+ tax forms annually. (10 legal entities - approx. $60mil withholding tax).

  • IRS penalty exposure associated with this task = $25mil+.

  • E-File to the IRS 40+ original and corrected files annually.

  • Support 300-400 Convey software users throughout the year- include giving access, password resets, training, and troubleshoot software problems.

  • Coordinate 972-CG and CP2100 W9 solicitations between internal users and vendor.

  • Work with vendor to troubleshoot software issues, and act as liaison between vendor and internal users to communicate any software changes during the year.

  • Work with programmers and internal users throughout the year doing file testing, new program changes, new implementations, or updates to existing tax files.

  • Interact frequently with business areas for review and sign-off.

  • Provide year end withholding report summaries to other tax department employees for preparation of their periodic reconciliations on a state and federal basis.

  • Communicate to internal users of any legal and compliance changes that may affect the current reporting process, including changes to federal and state withholding rates.

  • Coordinate distribution of IRS 1099 backup withholding notices among affected business units.

  • Periodic SAP to Taxport 1099 Reconciliations to the ledger.

Other Duties

  • Work with outside software vendors in order to stay current on software changes and implement necessary software updates/changes.

  • Prepare annual state transmission files as needed.

  • Prepare periodic state withholding deposits and file periodic withholding returns and annual reconciliations as needed.

  • Prepare federal withholding deposits and federal forms 945, 941 and 1042 as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires the ability to complete more complex analytical tax tasks on an as needed basis.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business or related field.

  • CPA candidate preferred or looking to sit for the CPA exam.

  • Excellent organizational skills required.

  • Excellent PC skills.

  • Previous information reporting experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed with an emphasis in the customer service area.

  • Prefer the candidate to have experience working for a large corporate employer with numerous locations.

  • Previous experience working within a team environment in order to meet filing deadlines and requirements necessary.
