Siemens Digital Industries in Johnson City, TN is seeking a self-motivated and results-driven Technical Writer / Editor to join the Information Management team. In this role, you will develop comprehensive documentation for industrial control products, including user manuals, help systems, product information bulletins, and update documents. Your primary focus will be on creating user documentation for hardware, firmware, and software products within the Research & Development organization.

We are looking for a Technical Writer. This position will be based in Johnson City, TN but has remote capability.

You’ll make an impact by:

• Communicate complex product features clearly and effectively from a user’s perspective, using both written and graphical formats.

• Research technical and engineering information such as drawings, design and test specifications, product prototypes, and other materials to thoroughly understand the products.

• Conduct interviews with subject matter experts to gather detailed information about product functionality.

• Operate within established R&D product development processes and contribute suggestions for process improvements.

• Quickly learn and adapt to new digital tools and technologies.

• Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or concentration in Technical Communications or a related technical field, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong technical writing skills

• 2+ years professional experience in writing and editing technical communications

• Strong capability to understand complex technical topics and convert them into user-friendly documentation.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

• Ability to transfer knowledge and improve documentation processes across projects.

• Skills in producing documentation that supports translation, complies with company guidelines, and adheres to legal standards.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Industrial Control Systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Operator Interfaces, and Input/Output Modules. Training will be provided to develop expertise in this area.

• Knowledge of PLC configuration and programming, programming languages, HMI (Human Machine Interface) configurations, and industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET.

• Experience utilizing AI-assisted writing tools like GitHub Copilot or similar.

• Experience creating or modifying graphics and screen captures for inclusion in manuals and help systems.

• Proficiency in German language helpful, but not required

The pay range for this position is $54,835 - $94,003 annually with a target incentive of 5% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
